TildeMail

tmail is a scriptable mail client for the terminal. It reads mail over IMAP or from a Maildir, sends it over SMTP, signs and encrypts through your own gpg, and takes Lua scripts, rules, themes and languages.

Each release on Codeberg has one archive per platform, a .deb file per architecture and a signed SHA256SUMS file.

Debian and Ubuntu

The apt repository on Codeberg, for amd64 and arm64 (tested on Debian 12 and 13, Ubuntu 22.04 and 24.04):

Terminal window
sudo curl https://codeberg.org/api/packages/squidd/debian/repository.key -o /etc/apt/keyrings/forgejo-squidd.asc
echo "deb [signed-by=/etc/apt/keyrings/forgejo-squidd.asc] https://codeberg.org/api/packages/squidd/debian stable main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/tmail.list
sudo apt update && sudo apt install tmail

The package also installs the manual pages, the ready-made themes and the translations. Use nightly instead of stable for the builds of every night.

Release archive

Unpack tmail-<version>-<rid>.tar.gz (.zip on Windows) and copy tmail to a folder on your PATH.

From source

With the .NET 10 SDK installed:

Terminal window
dotnet build TildeMail.slnx
dotnet run --project src/TildeMail.App -- check

Install and build covers the single-file executable, the Debian packages and the apt repository.

tmail opens a terminal interface for reading, searching, writing and managing mail across your accounts: IMAP and Maildir folders, a local cache for offline use, new-mail polling, conversations, a reader that shows the signature and encryption status of each message, and a : line for everything else. To write a message, it opens $VISUAL or $EDITOR; it has no editor of its own.

Not planned for version 1: OAuth2, saved drafts, attachments when sending, a built-in editor, and drawing HTML as a web page. The code is GPL-3.0-or-later.
